French toast with a twist!

This is a weekend breakfast type of meal or something to put in the kid’s lunch pack as a snack for school. It’s so easy to make and actually very filling. If you normally eat 4 to 6 slices of bread, just 3 pieces of this French toast will satisfy and keep you full. Especially the one with cheese and sausage filling.

What is this French toast with a twist? First, do we all know what French toast is? A simple explanation is bread dipped in eggs and fried! Of course, there are more things involved but the summary of it is bread dipped in egg and fried. Now the French toast with a twist is a genius way to be versatile with your bread. I’ve made this countless times for the husband, colleagues at work, my mum, brother, whew! The whole fam! 😇

I actually saw this first on a blog I loved to read when I was in Uni, 1Qplatter blog. While making her own, she spread some jam on the bread before French toasting it. I’ve also seen other variations of this on Pinterest or IG (not sure which) from Tasty or Buzz feed.

I have taken mine to another level of deliciousness and here is how to make it

Ingredients

Sliced bread

2 eggs

1 tablespoon of butter or oil for frying

Variety 1: mozzarella cheese and sausages

Variety 2: dulce de leche and bananas

Variety 3: Butter and sardines

Directions

1. Using a knife, cut the edges off the bread

2. Using a rolling pin, roll back and forth to flatten the bread

3. For variety 1, (this is my absolute favorite!) put a slice of cheese and a sausage and roll it up like a cigar. For this one I like to add a sprinkle of finely chopped onions and fresh atarodo pepper. 🌶🌶

4. French toast it! Dip your rolled-up bread in egg and fry. Fry for a minute or 2, turn it over and fry till it’s done. This should take a minute.

5. For variety 2, (this one is on the sweet side), spread some dulce de leche on the bread, add some sliced bananas, and French toast it! You can change it to peanut butter, Nutella or whatever spread you have. I don’t eat peanut butter or Nutella (don’t worry I’m still a foodie 😁) so dulce de leche works well for me. This is super sweet though!

6. For variety 3, spread some butter on the bread and add your mashed sardines. You can sprinkle some yaji (suya pepper) or black pepper on it, roll it up and French toast it!

These are just my twists to the French toast. I’ve seen cream cheese and strawberries, ham and cheese, so many variations! I think you can do something with mayo as well! Be creative with yours and do comment below what your twist to this French toast would be!

God bless you!, xoxo!

I like this already. The mashed potatoes look nice, as if steamed. Like the colors too, yellow and greenish.

And l was planning on losing some weight....
